STEPS TO BE A SUCCESSFUL CHEERLEADER. Many have said that being a cheerleader is easy. If it were, why would they have tryout? You can be successful as a cheerleader if you follow some simple steps.
Don't give up trying. Too many would-be cheerleaders quit when they are first cut from tryouts. Don't be discouraged. See what you can do better and practice for your next tryout. And if you're already on a team, don't assume your work is done. It's just beginning. You need to keep honing your skills.
Work for what you want. Don't assume everything is going to come easily to you. Cheerleading is hard work. You have to want it. And once you decide it's what you want, you have to work to keep it. Practices are intense to say the least. They get harder as you progress to state and nationals. The feeling you'll get after hitting a difficult routine will be indescribable.
Teammakes are a part of your success. You need to know your teammates, their strength and weaknesses. Part of a winning team is being able to compensate one's weakness with another's strength. It's also great to have fun time together. Time to laugh and be silly. That will help to build a bond that will make everyone want to work together and be successful as a team.
Think champion thoughts. You must think like a champion to be a champion. Everyone wants to have a perfect routine. Put up notes and posters where you practice to remind everyone that giving 100% by everyone creates champions.
Location, location, location. You and your team need to be known. Let the local newspapers know of your successes. See if you can get on the local news, even for homecoming stories. Being seen and heard is a good way to boost morale too.
Enjoy, enjoy, ENJOY!!! Being a cheerleader is meant to be fun as well as hard work. There are games to enjoy and cheering at the games is great fun.
