ARE YOU READY FOR THE CHEER YEAR? Be Prepared to be your best!
The summer is the start of a new year for all cheerleaders in Texas and across the country. It is the time where cheerleaders get a break from cheering at events, making appearances and attending those additional team practices and competitions. It is also a great time to keep your skills fine-tuned, order new uniforms, prepare for summer camps and to keep the pressures of school at a distance. This is the time where cheerleaders want to have free time for themselves in order to unwind. Cheerleaders want to have fun in the sun (as they say) but you must be prepared to be your best.
What’s the most difficult part of cheerleading? Is it the physical, mental, or emotional demands from your coach? Cheerleader’s often have very busy schedules which may include team practices, studying, school projects, family time, church functions, more practicing, spending time with friends, hobbies and other extracurricular activities. Cheerleading in itself can be a full time activity and often is a year-round commitment.
What will you do this summer? Whatever you decide to do, fit in time to keep your body in turn with your sport. Every cheer team is different but most encourage strength, conditioning and a lot more. It’s vital that every cheerleader stay in top shape in order to adequately perform all that goes into cheerleading. If you’re not in tip top shape you put a strain on your entire team. I have been it time and time again where a cheerleader takes a break and has a very difficult time rebuilding stamina, coordination and motivation. Your team is only as strong as its weakest link.
The cheer season is a busy time for every cheerleader including, middle school and high school cheerleaders, but it’s even more challenging for the collegiate, professional, or all-star cheer team. These teams include well-balanced athletes who can juggle academics, practices, games, fundraising, family, a social life and everything else. These are extreme pressures and demands throughout the entire season as you already know or are about to find out. Keep in mind that the summer time is the best time to regenerate your body’s muscles with consistent training, stretching and summer time activities.
The cheer season is long and demanding, so you need to ask yourself this question – Are YOU ready for the cheer year?
